Mike Foster Specialty: Freestyle Skateboarding Age: 47 Years skating: 37 Sponsors: Trinity Skateboards Hometown: Tyrone, GA Mike is a true multi-sportsman. He plays baseball for the Southern Mariners, an over 30 hardball team in Atlanta, where he catches, plays outfield, and has a 300 batting average. He runs 5K and 10K races where he occasionally posts a sub-7 minute mile pace. Mike is preparing to compete in triathalons. He has been known to chase a huricane or two to "ride the big wave". He won his first freestyle contest in 1975 when a band of skateboarding pioneers toured through Albuquerque, NM with their show. In pursuit of his dream to be a professional skateboarder, Mike moved to California and was offered a spot with the Pepsi Skateboard Team. Mike turned pro in 1983 while riding his "unconventional" symetrical double kick-tail board. (At that time, wooden boards were pressed with only one kick-tail - he hand made his die to press his board). When he wasn’t competing he was judging contests for N.S.A. and C.A.S.L. Drawing from his competition experiences, he wrote an article titled "What’s Competition" that sums up why he continues to skate today with the intensity and dedication that he’s always shown.
